its a small knitting scientist world

I'm almost recovered from my back injury! starting to get out of the house on a regular basis - no more house arrest! i am looking forward to joining some local knitters and spinners in the near future.

Last week i had a very funny coincidental meeting...
D and i were at an ice cream parlor near our new house, and I noticed three young ladies sitting there knitting. I debated whether or not i should go chat with them. I know sometimes it gets annoying when you're trying to just knit with friends and strangers want to talk to you... i didn't want to be that person. but i decided to go introduce myself anyway. They are so close to my house, maybe they knit there regularly? They said no, this was the first time they had come to knit in public. usually they were indoor grad student / knitters. Turns out that all three of them are grad students at Brandeis - in biology! classes haven't even started yet, and i managed to meet some fellow knitting scientists at my new school. how fun!

good knitting time.

i'm totally re-addicted to reruns of Law & Order! (i haven't had cable tv in a few years.) on certain nights of the week a person can watch 5 hours in a row between two channels. trouble. i am making good progress on Kiri though. i won't bore you with a picture remarkably similar to the last. just imagine a few more pattern repeats.

and after:

you can see the instant disaster that is my new craft room. I have a WHOLE ROOM for my crafts, but it needs serious help. i need storage. lots of storage. and i need work space. i'm overwhelmed and don't know where to start. eek.

3 pattern repeats of the Kiri Shawl! This is my invalid knitting. it was supposed to be road trip knitting... but its the only thing that's not boxed up right now, so its what i'm working on. Its my first attempt at "real lace". i think i'm a spectacular screw-up at it, but i persevere. hopefully i'll get better as i go and nobody will notice the big messups at the beginning.

or maybe not.

i'm still here, in MA. we had to cancel our big summer roadtrip on Dr's orders. no sitting or standing for long periods of time. 2 -3 weeks of bedrest. i'm very sad to be missing the big trip, but trying to stay upbeat. (luckily it was very badly strained muscles instead of something worse...) my back is feeling alot bettter after a week of anti-inflammatory meds. i can now putter around the house, but i'm not strong enough to sit, walk, or ride in the car for long periods of time.

Just before we moved a friend gave me a giant roaster that had lost some parts necessary for roasting - but its PERFECT for dyeing. its awesome and i love love LOVE the giant roaster.

note my highly scientific measuring devices: empty yogurt container and milk cartons. i was scrambling to adjust to dyeing in my house instead of the lab. eh, they worked.

check out how amzingly awesome Trista's felted kitty bed came out!! It was knit with a combination of handpainted yarn and my handspun yarn. the colors and patterns are really much more gorgeous in person. I really should make some for my cats. there would be mutiny here if they knew what they were missing!

i'd show you what i've been knitting... if i could find the cable i need to connect the digital camera.... its here somewhere. in a box. mmmyeah....
